Prevention Education

This a curriculum we use in order to go into “at-risk” communities to educate the public about the use/misuse of legal and illicit substances. These lessons talk about what can happen to the body, what can happen to the brain, and how to steer away from making negative life choices.

Hidden In Plain Sight

Hidden In Plain Sight is provides parents with clues from a teen’s bedroom to help them determine whether their child might be experimenting with or using drugs or alcohol. Room decor, hidden compartments, and items to conceal use are located throughout the room. Add power to your parenting by being informed and then intervening if you think your child might be using drugs or alcohol. Addressing problem behavior early is important to preventing negative consequences of use including unsafe decision-making, car crashes, and dependence.

Teen Court

Teen Court is for youth ages 10-17 who receive Class C citations in Hood County. Teens have a way to adjudicate this citation from their record by completing community service hours. They also have a chance to divert another teen by coming back and serving on the jury. Teen Court is approved and follows Section 45.052 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure and Section 54.032 of the Texas Family Code.

Teens Making A Difference (TMAD)

Teens Making A Difference is a youth-based program. Teens are teaching their communities about the consequences of using/misuse substances. Our hope is to change the social norm by teens encouraging teens to make positive choices.

DEA Take Back Day

DEA Take Back Day is a chance for out community to come together in order to get unused and expired medications off the street. There are four sites to drop off at. This is held on the last Saturdays of October and April.

We also have a permanent 24/7 drop off location at the Hood County Sheriffs office. Along with this we hand out Deterra and mailing slips the community can use to safely dispose of their medication in the trash and send it off to be disposed of.

Teen and Young Adult Mental Support Group

If you are struggling with addiction, stress, loss of a loved one, depression, bullying, anxiety, and other mental health-related topics, we can help. This is a safe space where teens and young adults can come together and be heard while learning emotional and physical skills to overcome the challenges life throws at them. It is time we shed light on mental health and talk away the dark.
